EASTBOURNE PARKING REVIEW – WE URGENTLY NEED YOUR OPINIONS!
You may or may not be aware that the long-awaited review of Eastbourne’s on-street parking controls has started. Whilst the date for the official review has passed, the Chamber believes that to effectively represent Chamber Members’ views on such an important issue, it is vital that we know what you think. We are therefore asking Members to:
1. Complete the Chamber questionnaire online
This can be found at http://edccsurveys.247n.co.uk/index.php?sid=65597&lang=en
2. Tell as many people as possible about the review and urge them to take part.
The more views are made known, the better the results of the consultation will be and the greater the chance of making the system work better for Eastbourne and local businesses. Tell your employees, colleagues, customers, visitors, neighbours, friends and family.
We need to know our Members’ views, whether they are good, bad or indifferent, so that we can effectively lobby to improve parking in the town and engage effectively with ESCC and EBC to change things for the better.
THIS IS YOUR CHANCE TO MAKE YOUR VIEWS KNOWN
DON’T DELAY: DO IT TODAY!
Businesses and residents within the area and just outside it, will have received a leaflet about the review and a questionnaire. If you have not received one you can fill one in online at ESCC’s website:

EDCC Articles of Association
The original Articles of Association of the Chamber dated back to its formation as a limited company in 1925. The Board had long felt they were in need of modernisation and proposed a new constitution in line with the recent Companies Act. This was presented to the membership at the recent AGM when it was approved unanimously.

Fundraising at the Christmas Lunch in December 2009
benefited two local charities :
Lark in the Park and the Jill Parker Project (JPK).
Each received a cheque for £630 as the successful nominations in the Business Card Draw; the JPK Project was chosen by Dave Bell of DB Autos, and Lark in the Park by Stephen Bacic of Informed Financial Advice.
Lark in the Park is an Eastbourne based Charitable Trust for local youngsters aged betwen 5 and 25 with disabilities including Downs Syndrome, Autism and Cerebal Palsy. The charity supports both the youngsters and their carers. www.larkintheparkcharity.org.uk
The JPK Project aims to provide residential accommodation in a safe environment for people with learning disabilities, enabling them to live independently and with access to meaningful daytime activities, training, work experience and friends. EBC has granted planning approval for a facility at Oxklynge Chalk Pit and fundraising is continuing to turn this into reality. www.jpkproject.co.uk
Both charities were immensely grateful for this support from the local business community.

SUSSEX FOOD AND DRINK HEROES ANNOUNCED
Meads Village butchers from Meads, Eastbourne and a member of Eastbourne Chamber of Commerce was crowned Sussex Butcher of the Year at a glamorous Sussex Food & Drink Awards 2009/10 dinner held at the East Sussex National Golf Resort & Spa near Uckfield on January 28. Over 9000 people voted for more than 300 top quality Sussex food and drink businesses and personalities in this fourth year of the Sussex Food & Drink Awards, which is run by Natural PR with A Taste of Sussex to promote and reward the best Sussex producers and the outlets which support them. Said Clive Beddall OBE, Chairman of the Judges: “Sussex food and drink producers are now leading the way in the UK’s local food revolution and the food and farming sector here is becoming the envy of its colleagues in other regions of the UK. This year our winners come from right across the county and the quality is absolutely outstanding.”
Meads Village Butchers in Meads is owned by Bob and Beth Young. They took over the shop a year ago, completely redesigning and refocusing the shop so winning the award has been quite a feat. It is a traditional butchers with traditional values, focusing on local and free range quality meat. They are passionate about quality of product and service. Says Bob Young,( far left) “We trim our meat to individual needs, stocking a full range of cuts together with duck, geese, rabbit and game in season. Alongside are fresh pies, which have become something of a legend in Eastbourne, made with our own local meat and speciality sausages made on the premises. We are working on dry curing our own bacon in house. The customer is king.”
In days when many butchers are failing under the onslaught of supermarkets Bob feels they have hit the nerve of customers who want quality, local meat with individual service at sensible prices. Butchers, like many other retail trades, have to refocus and adapt to thrive in this difficult climate. Meads Village Butchers proves it can be done. Says Bob, “Customers want local meat now which is traceable to their area and that is what we give them. Unlike many butchers we happily carry out home deliveries.”
Bob feels that many more high class caterers and prestigious restaurants will be interested in the high class product and service they offer. Parts of the catering trade are still feeling the effect of the current economic climate and using the Sussex Butcher of the Year, and advertising the fact, must give a competitive edge in this market. Bob says, “We work closely with our trade customers providing a quality product and offering excellent service at sensible prices. We believe the key to success in this market is to listen to the client and keep communicating. Call Bob on 01323 732591 for more information.
